alastair's page

I will let Alastair decide the content of this page - He can add to it as and when!
And here I am! As you all know I have my own website dedicated to the fortunes of Carlisle United FC, which have not been too good of late.

However I recently (February 3 2001) had the honour of being invited to a home match by the club's current "supremo" David Low (ex-Celtic and Clydebank connections) and watched the game from the comfort of the directors' box. I also got to drink tea in the board room at half-time, not to mention full-time. I'll post more on this development later.

I was due to appear in the local newspaper recently in connection with the site reaching the landmark of its 500,000th "visitor". In the end, I only got a very small paragraph tucked away at the bottom of an inside page but I have been promised a proper article when I get to the 1 million mark (much later this year I expect).

However I (or at least the website) managed to get into the pages of that august journal, The Times, when Danny Baker (y'know the fat cockney one) visited it and attempted to rig an electronic "poll" I was running on the possibility of CUFC transferring into the Scottish League!

And if that wasn't enough fame?? I was on ITV's Football Extra programme last November (for about 20 seconds) talking about the plight of said football team (since improved I might add). Saved on video, of course!

I have been pretty busy at work of late. It may have escaped your notice that I am also responsible for maintaining my employer's website, too. Not as exciting (or as busy) as CUFC Online, but nevertheless a source of a lot of potential new business for the company. We will be putting in a new system for shopfloor time recording over the next month or so, so that should keep me well occupied!

Also hoping to accompany nephew Amani to his first football match shortly - maybe I'll persuade him to support "The Cumbrians" even if we are (nearly) bottom of the league!

And big sis is currently in the process of finally acquiring a computer (with much help and advice from yours truly) so expect a contribution or three from her soon also!

Best wishes to all the Becks, Ditchfields and other assorted families out there!!
